Hello there! Welcome to my new blog! My name is Kate Mills and I have just graduated from Leeds College of Art. For the past 3 years, I have been studying Printed Textiles & Surfae Pattern Design... Tomorrow I will recieve my final marks... Eep.
Since I finished, I have been scouring job sites and making seemingly pointless trips to the job centre - I've been there three times already and have not, as yet, seen any money. Luckily, I am still working odd shifts at my part time job in a health food shop, which means I don't feel like a total failure of life. But today I had a revalation... I am going to be an artist. As my career. To earn a living. Hopefully.
Although I absolutely loved my course, I am not a commercial designer, which means that any 'Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design' jobs that happen to be available, will be snapped up by the ladies on my course who are really great at drawing flowers. I realise now that I am an artist. I can't design to a specific brief or trend, my work is whatever I want it to be and I will do it in my own personal style. I just can't escape that. So, artist it is! Wish me luck...
